This workshop will address two intricately connected themes around the question of music and rhythm. Music as the archive of resistance and the movement of music across resistances. In short, the music of movements and the movement of music. These themes delve into the relationship between music and social movements, where music has served as a powerful tool for expressing resistance, preserving cultural history, and catalyzing change. In this workshop, we propose to: Engage with the Fanonian question: Why does the oppressed dance?
And explore the concept of intersectional solidarity through rhythmic collaboration, participate in collective music-making, songwriting, and dancing as well as Celebrate play and pleasure as essential elements of decolonization.
The workshop is open to everyone who is willing to participate in lively discussion and music-making. We advise that the workshop participants read the concept beforehand and bring any musical instruments they have along with them.
