A result of more than three years of investigative research of the German colonial genocide in contemporary Namibia, this workshop will screen two of the most recent films by Forensic Architecture and Forensis: "Shark Island" and "Swakopmund". Both films investigate the sites of concentration camps and mass burial sites - on Shark Island and Swakopmund - in contemporary Namibia; sites of remembrance of the genocidal war campaign of German colonial troops in what was then called Deutsch Süd-West-Afrika that remain unprotected and are actively being erased.
The work done in partnership with the Ovaherero Traditional Authority and Nama Traditional Leaders Association will be discussed and contextualised with live testimony by Ovaherero and Nama activists and leaders Laidlaw Peringanda, Johannes Maboss Ortmann, Cornelius Fredericks. They will be joined by Agata Nguyen Chong and Jasper Humpert as researchers on the Forensic Architecture / Forensis teams to share insights on the methods of forensic inquiry and investigative research.
This workshop was organized by Forensic Architecture and realized with the support of medico international.
