Dekoloniale [Re]visions 2/24 x Afrolution: »The Poetics of Remembering Colonialism«

Conversation & Readings

In 2019, the Berlin House of Representatives passed the motion »Berlin takes responsibility for its colonial past«, commissioning the development of a citywide and cross-departmental reappraisal concept to account for Berlin‘s role and historical responsibility as the former capital of the German Empire in the imperial age of German and European colonialism. This includes the »Remembering Colonialism« concept commissioned by the Berlin Senate for Culture: Together with Berlin-based African/-diasporic and BIPoC organizations, local and international academics, activists, and artists worked on the content in five working groups from September 2022 to December 2023. In addition, expert opinions were commissioned from writers and academics. Curator Ibou Diop engages in conversation with some of them.

Participants: Ibou Diop, Tonderai Koschke, Fogha Mc Refem, Sharon Dodua Otoo, Nicolas Premier, and Sinthujan Varatharajah
